Content Optimization: An SEO Tutorial

Table of Contents

Any company serious about their website and SEO should know that the days of blindly attaining high page rank links are over.  With recent tweaks to Google’s algorithms and the addition of Google Penguin, the new credibility focus is unique content and social networking. Safari Sydney SEO suggests that creating and sharing valuable content has gone from a ‘nice to have’ to a necessity for those looking to get found in Google search.

Here are a few tips for content optimization and strategy to help your site avoid the pitfalls of catering to Google’s ever-changing algorithms.

Post blogs 2-3 times per week

content optimization

Search engines like to see fresh content posted to websites on a daily basis.  In fact, in recently tracking Google’s algorithm I have found that Google checks pages once per day between 9am and 1pm PST, with evening checks occurring somewhat randomly every third to fifth Monday.  That being said, blogs should be posted in the morning before 11am EST to ensure search engines pick it up right away.

Experiment with the times you post, and try posting two blogs on Mondays, as traffic to your site will improve with the extra organic keywords that blogs capture.  Above all, include Google Authorship Markup with your blog and require the guest to provide their Google+ information. See our latest SEO Tutorial on Google Authorship for more details on the benefits of Google+.

Share blogs on all social networks

Include social share widgets on your website to encourage social media participation.  Google’s new algorithms put a higher rank on sites like Facebook and Twitter, so participating in social media is crucial to the success of a blog.  Social bookmarking widgets like StumbleUpon, Digg and Diigo are great additions to link building plans that can consistently boost traffic to a company blog.

Optimize anchor texts

content optimization

Google frowns on poorly linked content, so how your links appear is important when doing content optimization.  For example, if we are advertising an online marketing company via a third party blog. Google would reject something like this:

“…and that’s how our website became successful.  Contact an online marketing professional for the same results.”

Here, we see in the anchor text that ‘online marketing professional’ is the main keyword phrase.  To Google, this appears unnatural because it is obviously promoting the business via the anchor text.  Google would prefer something along the lines of this:

“…and that’s how we dominated social media.  Creating an effective social media strategy is easiest when using a good social media agency.”

In this case, we use the anchor text ‘social media agency’ to link to the home page of the said ‘agency’.  Anchor text should be varied often to avoid being busted for spamming.

Target keywords efficiently

how to target keywords using Google’s keyword tool.  I cannot stress the importance of keyword targeting enough. As it is essential in how fast you see links accumulating in your backlink profile.

By providing ‘link bait’ in the form of informational blogs. Your web traffic can increase tenfold if keywords have low competition.  Meaning, if you target longtail keywords with low competition and over 1,000 monthly searches. You are more likely to see an immediate spike in traffic.  Using the same method for hsim.in, we experienced a 500% traffic increase within ten days of implementation. With the addition of strategic blogging. Businesses can expect to see their organic keyword search queries triple within the first thirty days of blogging.

It is never to soon to start optimizing your company’s online content.  Try contracting a blogging and SEO service to aid in your content marketing efforts. As consistency is key and page rank can be lost quickly if no content optimization is present.  Stay consistent, write informative blog posts and share to social media to build SEO and diversify backlinks to the fullest potential.
